Tree planting in Taygetos, with the support of “Plant your Roots in Greece” foundation

“Plant your roots in Greece” foundation invites all interested parties, citizens/volunteers, to participate in the reforestation activities organized by the environmental association “Friends of Taygetos” and “Action Group Taygetos” on Sunday, the 20th of February, 2011.

The tree planting activities will be held in Katounes region of Taygetos, located at the 33rd km of Kalamata – Sparta National Road, with the members of the aforementioned associations and the participation of volunteers from active associations and citizens of Kalamata and surrounding regions, under the supervision and instructions of Kalamata Forest Service. The effort is supported by “Plant your Roots in Greece” foundation and “SKAI 100.3” Radio station, which broadcasts at 93.0 in Kalamata Region.

The following facilities will be provided for all volunteers:

1. At 8:30 am two (2) buses hired by the organizers will depart from 23 Martiou Square, arriving at 9:30 am at the meeting point in Taygetos.

2. At 7:30 am, one (1) bus will be departing from Stoupa (Balachtari Baker) for the transportation of association GAIA volunteers from Mani, but also anyone who wishes to be transported and is located in the area. Ms. Constandiou Christina is responsible for this bus. (tel: 2721078065)

Volunteers should be aware that the weather on Sunday 20.2.2011 will be good, the activities will commence at 9:30 am, planting will be easy since pits have already been prepared for the plants around them. They must bring an appropriate attire, gloves, shoes and a small hoe, because the tree planting activities will take place at an altitude of 1.300 meters approximately and they must also bring their own bottle of water. In the morning Taygetos tea will be served and at noon traditional fasolada (bean soup) with wine and Taygetos tsipouro will be provided.
